My GFW15 collection is about taking the traditional British countryside look and ‘polluting’ it. Mankind is ruining the earth, some things we do may be good but a lot of things are bad. I am looking into these aspects and using my research to create a modern twist on tradition. I have used my creativity to push the boundaries and produce an original and innovative country style inspired collection.
My garments are a recreations of the traditional craft of patchwork. Using contrasting fabrics and details I have created a bespoke, quality collection. When creating the drape and fit of my garments I used my intricate patting cutting techniques and excellent manufacturing methods to ensure the heavy metal chains don’t distort the design and the way it is perceived.
I was sponsored by Sophie Hallette, a high end lace company who produce beautiful expensive lace. I took delicate cream lace and rubberised it with liquid latex to change it’s properties from a soft undergarment fabric to a waterproof malleable fabric in various colours.
I combined various weights and textures within each design to create originality. I bonded fabrics, coated fabrics, layered them up and appliqued my fabrics. I then took these fabric and patch-worked them together using chains as the seam detail.
